Development and Communications Associate

Regular Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; occasional evening/weekend/after-hours work required.

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Development and Communications Associate will play a key role in supporting the organization’s mission by collecting, writing, and creating compelling stories that highlight the impact of our work. This role is responsible for managing the organization’s digital presence, supporting event logistics, and contributing to outreach and fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will be a creative communicator, detail-oriented, and passionate about food security.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Creation & Social Media Management

  • Collect and write compelling stories/testimonials that illustrate the impact of the organization’s work.
  • Create and manage content for the organization’s blog and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X / formerly Twitter).
  • Moderate and monitor comments and direct messages on all social media platforms to engage with the community and address any inquiries or concerns.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all platforms.

Creative Services Support 

  • Work with the Creative Services Manager to produce creative visual assets to support the organization’s imagery including internal and external materials and both print and digital pieces.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure high-quality production and timely delivery of creative assets.
  • Acquire necessary photography and maintain an up-to-date library of photos depicting the organization’s work and impact.
  • Assist with website updates as needed, ensuring content is current, accurate, and aligned with the organization’s branding and messaging.
  • Ensure all visual content aligns with the organization’s branding and messaging guidelines.

Event Support 

  • Assist in the implementation of event logistics for fundraising efforts and campaigns/initiatives.
  • Support event coordination, including setting up, promoting, and ensuring the smooth execution of events.

Community Outreach 

  • Manage and maintain the outreach calendar of community events where the organization will have a presence.
  • Represent the organization at community events, fostering relationships and increasing visibility.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. As needed, serve as a YFB representative at outreach events, presentations, and community gatherings. This includes participating in YFB fundraising and donor engagement events as applicable.
  2. Collaborate with other departmental staff to integrate fundraising efforts.
  3. Perform all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. 1-2 years of experience in communications, marketing or design
  2. Strong writing and storytelling skills with a keen eye for detail.
  3. Proficiency in social media platforms, content management, and analytics tools.
  4. Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
  5. Experience with Canva, WordPress, and Creative Cloud is a plus.
  6. Experience with event planning and logistics is a plus.
  7. Strong organizational and project management abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  8. Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Certificates and Licenses:

  1. Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL AND NON-PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. This position works in an open office space shared with other staff and volunteers, with frequent interruptions and noise from conversations over the phone or with visitors. 
  2. This position also may work remotely from a home office occasionally, as public health orders, Department Leadership, and other organizational circumstances may dictate.
  3. Occasionally work in the warehouse or at an outdoor event, exposed to the elements. 
  4. Drive own transportation, primarily for community outreach and special events. 
  5. Frequent repetitive hand motion, grasping and fine hand manipulation, primarily for keyboarding and handwriting. 
  6. Speak, hear and clearly understand face-to-face, during remote Zoom meetings, or over telephone conversations. 
  7. Frequent learning, performing and following of simple and complex calculations, instructions and concepts. 
  8. Frequent analysis of data and information to make logical and relevant judgments and decisions.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range is $24-$28 per hour, depending on experience, plus benefits including, Paid Time Off, 10 paid holidays, floating holiday, contributions to medical and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan match, Flexible Spending Accounts, employer paid life insurance, Employee Assistance Program and $100.00/year YFB clothing allowance.
