Last week we visited Pioneer and Woodland High Schools to hold Student Farmers Markets at both schools and the energy and enthusiasm was incredible!

Students remarked how excited they were to try new items, like Edgar, a freshman, who was taking home beets to eat them for the first time. ...A sophomore named Alejandra was surprised getting out of class and seeing the tables covered in fruits and vegetables, "I was excited about what I can bring home to share with my family," she said.🥕🥬🍎

This program gives students access to local produce, hands-on nutrition education, and the tools to support healthier lives. 💚

Yolo Food Bank's June 2025 Distribution Calendar is now available! With the arrival of warmer weather, some of our distribution sites have changes to their schedules. Please review the updates below of any new days and times for affected locations.

🍅 Winters High School: Starting ...June 7, distributions will be on Saturdays at 11:00 AM.

🥕 Woodland Community and Senior Center: Starting June 11, distributions will begin at 8:30 AM.

🥬 University Covenant Church: Starting June 24, distributions will begin at 10:30 AM.

🍊 YCCA West Sac Family Resource Center: June 6 will be the FINAL distribution at this site.

Meet Viera (left) and Diane (right), two friends from Carmichael who make the 50-mile drive to volunteer at Yolo Food Bank’s Masjid Aisha Public Community Food Distribution in West Sacramento every Tuesday. Over a year ago, they were invited by their friend Del, the lead volunteer, and the ...experience was as rewarding as they hoped. 😊

Diane, newly retired from CalTrans, says: "I was feeling a little lost with all of my free time. I knew I wanted to help my community. Del told me to come try it out and we’ve come back every week since." 💚

We’re thrilled to welcome Jimmy Choo to the Yolo Food Bank team! 👏

Jimmy joins as our new Director of Operations, officially stepping into the role on July 1. He’ll begin working with us on May 19 and spend June in close collaboration with Corkey Mapalo to ensure a smooth ...transition. Corkey will begin a new role at Yolo Food Bank this July as she focuses her talents on our new “Harvest Program”, an effort to work with local farmers.

With leadership experience at Starbucks and the Biltmore Hotel, Jimmy brings a strong focus on service, staff development, and building efficient systems, all of which will support our work with partners, grocers and distributors, and volunteers across Yolo County. 🤝

“I’m excited to join Yolo Food Bank and I appreciate the opportunity,” Jimmy says. “This organization does incredible work supporting our community, and I'm honored to be part of a team so committed to making a meaningful impact.”

Today was a day of advocacy and action in Sacramento! 📣

In collaboration with the California Association of Food Banks, members of the team from Yolo Food Bank joined peer food banks from across California to meet with legislators, raise awareness about food insecurity, and ask for ...support to address hunger in our state.

More specifically, we are advocating to keep food banks adequately stocked, by ensuring the CalFood program is sustained at $60M in the 2025-26 State Budget.
