On Friday, September 5, we came together in the city of West Sacramento with county board supervisor Oscar Villegas, and local partners for a homeless outreach event at the Westwood Motel. Neighbors-in-need received support such as showers and social services from numerous organizations, as well as... bags of groceries from Yolo Food Bank.

Each bag from Yolo Food Bank held 9 pounds of groceries — including cereal, soups, fruit cups, fruit snacks, peanut butter, granola bars, donuts, wipes, napkins, and utensils — offering both nourishment and comfort.

We are deeply grateful to Supervisor Villegas for helping organize this event and to the many partners who made it a success: Yolo County Health and Human Services, West Sacramento Police Department, Health Education Council, Partnership HealthPlan of California, and Communicare+OLE.

Together, we are supporting a healthier, more nourished Yolo County.

On this National Food Bank Day, we are deeply grateful to Raley's Food For Families for powering Yolo Food Bank with a $40,000 grant that provided five new pallet jacks and agricultural bins. Thanks to their investment, our team can move food more quickly, safely, and efficiently, saving 20 ...hours each week and ensuring healthy groceries reach families across Yolo County without delay. 😀

We recently celebrated this gift with a ribbon cutting at our warehouse, joined by Raley’s Food for Families Board Members Carol Barsotti and Robin Gutridge, who saw firsthand how their support is transforming our daily work.

Thank you, Raley’s, for standing with us in the fight against hunger. Your partnership strengthens our community and helps thousands of families put food on the table. 👏

When Christy and her husband moved from Charlotte, NC, to Yolo County in 2019, she started looking for a place to volunteer. “Volunteering has always been important to me,” she says, “and I’ve really enjoyed the community I’ve joined. I love this! These people I work with are awesome, and... I leave at the end feeling like I am making an impact.” 😊

She knows the food she helps sort and distribute matters. “Every time I come, I hope the lines will be shorter,” Christy admits, “but there are more people who need help.” Her message to the community is simple: “Donations make a huge difference. We just need to keep believing we can make a difference,” she says with a smile before getting back to packing produce for her neighbors. 💚

This summer, Yolo Food Bank teamed up with Sheila Allen, County Supervisor for the 4th District, to bring more than just food to Yolo County Housing’s migrant centers in Davis, Madison, and Dixon.

Through our Cultivo Program, we’ve been delivering fresh produce and pantry staples to ...these centers since the spring harvest season began. When Supervisor Allen’s office joined the opening day at the Davis Migrant Center in April, they saw an opportunity to do even more by making sure families had better access to menstrual hygiene products.

“I am so grateful to Karen (second from right) and her team for jumping into action,” Allen said, after working with us to provide 292 pounds of menstrual hygiene products for families in Davis, Madison, and Dixon.

“It was a huge success,” she added, “and we look forward to continuing this partnership to provide menstrual hygiene products to all who need them.” 💚
