Meet The Avalos Family

Avalo Family
Meet the Avalos family! Yolo Food Bank Hunger Heroes Juana, Carolina, Vanesa, and Juan have volunteered with Yolo Food Bank for over two years. When the pandemic started, the Avalos family came across an “Eat Well Yolo” fresh food distribution at the West Sacramento City Hall building during their walk. They decided to volunteer as a way to care for their community. Since then, Carolina, a rising 11th grader, has received 3 regional community awards for her volunteerism with us!
“Volunteering is fun! At first, I was shy and it was hard to speak to others but then I started coming here and interacting with people. Now, I get along with all the volunteers and see them as my family.”
For parents Juan and Juana, volunteering is a way to teach their daughters greater empathy for those in need.
“Volunteering with Yolo Food Bank is a beautiful learning experience for us as adults, as well as for our children, that we should help our community. And that, sometimes, we can help without expecting anything in return.”
We’re awestruck by the compassion and selflessness of the Avalos family. And we’re grateful for each and every one of our amazing Yolo Food Bank volunteers!
