There’s something special about the spirit of giving—it connects people, strengthens communities, and reminds us that together we can make a difference. Giving back during the holidays can be especially meaningful. It’s a season defined by gatherings, gratitude, and celebrations. Helping your community can come in many forms, whether it’s a financial contribution, volunteer work, or simply helping others.
For Tauzer Apiaries and Trevor Tauzer, giving back to their Yolo County community isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a way of life. After more than 50 years in business, Tauzer Apiaries is deeply connected to Yolo County, and that bond shines through in everything they do. As long-time supporters of Yolo Food Bank, the Tauzer family were major donors to the Capital Donor Campaign that contributed to building the Food Bank’s new warehouse.
Trevor, the second generation to work at his family’s business, understands how tough it can be for people to make ends meet, especially lately. “We’ve always believed in what Yolo Food Bank does,” he says, “but donating money isn’t as easy now, so I thought, ‘How else can I help?’” That’s when he decided to get involved as a volunteer.
For the past couple of months, Trevor’s been giving his time at Public Food Distribution events and helping out during packing events at the warehouse in Woodland. Aside from our regular volunteer postings that people can sign up for, he finds it handy when Yolo Food Bank posts “urgent” volunteer opportunities. Those tend to work best for his fluctuating schedule. Recently, while volunteering at Winters High School, Trevor was busy handing out produce and dry goods to folks driving up. “It’s amazing to be here, see the people we’re helping, and feel their appreciation,” he says.
Through our Public Food Distribution program, Yolo Food Bank serves over 9,000 households monthly across 19 sites throughout the county. Community volunteers like Trevor make it all happen—checking people in, sorting, packing, and distributing food. Volunteers simply sign up through the website, and all the event details are right there.
As Trevor helped load a family’s car, he shared, “I knew this was important, but I didn’t expect it to be this inspiring. Being part of these distributions and working at the warehouse has been so rewarding.” Trevor’s experience reminds us that there are so many ways to support the Yolo Food Bank and make a difference in Yolo County—every bit of help goes a long way.
