Yolo Food Bank

Our Public Community Food Distribution site in West Sacramento continues a tradition of nourishing the community; one that started long before today. 😊

The West Capitol Ave location, where volunteers provide groceries every weekend to their neighbors, once housed "Farmer's Market," a locally owned grocery store that opened on July 8, 1953. If you look closely, you can still see the store's footprint in the lighter-colored concrete on the parking lot’s cement pad (the right side of the photo)!

Huge thanks to our friend and supporter, Curtis Carroll, for sharing this incredible piece of history and a newspaper clipping from the store’s grand opening. Our communities have always found ways to feed themselves and it’s inspiring to see that, while many things change, our community remains connected in wonderful ways. 💚
