Yolo Food Bank

When Christy and her husband moved from Charlotte, NC, to Yolo County in 2019, she started looking for a place to volunteer. “Volunteering has always been important to me,” she says, “and I’ve really enjoyed the community I’ve joined. I love this! These people I work with are awesome, and I leave at the end feeling like I am making an impact.” 😊

She knows the food she helps sort and distribute matters. “Every time I come, I hope the lines will be shorter,” Christy admits, “but there are more people who need help.” Her message to the community is simple: “Donations make a huge difference. We just need to keep believing we can make a difference,” she says with a smile before getting back to packing produce for her neighbors. 💚

Meeting More Needs at Our Migrant Centers

Expanding Support Beyond Groceries This summer, Yolo Food Bank teamed up with Sheila Allen, County Supervisor for the 4th District, to bring more than just food to Yolo County Housing’s migrant centers in Davis, Madison, and Dixon. Alongside our groceries, families received menstrual hygiene products, an essential need that is an extra expense for women. […]

Supporting Esparto After the July Explosion

On July 1, a fireworks facility in the Esparto area exploded, causing widespread evacuations and power outages. Tragically, seven lives were lost. While most homes had power restored by July 10, a few families, including those in rural areas, faced a second week without electricity. Many were unable to store or prepare food safely. How […]

A New Director Joins Yolo Food Bank

We’re thrilled to welcome Armando Salud-Ambriz to the Yolo Food Bank team as our new Director of External Relations! “Armando’s unique perspective, shaped by his experience in public service and education, along with his deep connection to the Yolo County community and the region, make him the perfect person to help us share our story, […]

Dunnigan Keeps the Support Flowing

When the original site for our weekly Public Community Food Distribution in Dunnigan suddenly became unavailable, it seemed we might lose a vital connection to residents and a consistent source of food for those who rely on it. It looked like the scheduled distribution might miss a week, or more, and for many neighbors, that […]

A Unique Gift for the Volunteers

A Long-Time Donor in Many Ways At Yolo Food Bank, volunteers show up with a lot of heart and a desire to make an impact. Few embody that spirit more than Bob Rennie, a long-time donor and dedicated volunteer who calls Winters, California home. Whether he’s distributing food at Winters High School or sorting rice […]

Farm-to-Fairway: Tee-ing Off for a Cause

The sun was shining and the course was looking exceptional on a perfect Saturday morning at Teal Bend Golf Course for our annual Farm-to-Fairway tournament. Golfers sipped breakfast bloody marys and mimosas, grabbed a light bite, and set out for a day of fun, friendly competition, and generous support for Yolo Food Bank. […]
