Yolo Food Bank

Meet Ed Ellis, who has been part of our team for eight years, but his journey started even earlier—he volunteered with us for two years before joining as staff. Now, he’s the associate who keeps things running smoothly in the Quality Assurance Room, where produce and dried goods get sorted and packed. 🍐

Each week, Ed and his amazing team of volunteers carefully sort through produce to ensure it’s good to go out to our community. After that, they weigh everything before it heads out to distributions, including Student Farmers Markets. Thanks to their hard work, fresh produce reaches more than 1,000 families every month. “I love knowing I am helping people,” Ed says, “and it is great exercise too!” 😊

Ed reflects on his time at Yolo Food Bank with gratitude: “Some of the nicest people I have met in my whole life have been here at Yolo Food Bank,” he explains. “And I work for a great boss, Corkey Mapalo, and that has really kept me going.” 💚

Known for his friendly personality, great music playlists, and an ongoing chess game by his desk, Ed makes the warehouse a vibrant and welcoming place.
