A Season of Change for Yolo Food Bank

After fifteen years of dedicated service as Director of Operations at Yolo Food Bank, Corkey Mapalo will begin a new chapter this July. She’ll focus her talents on our new “Harvest Program”, an effort to work with local farmers who grow our world-renowned fresh produce. “Yolo Food Bank is so grateful for all of Corkey’s efforts,” says Executive Director Karen Baker. “During her time in this role she has effectively managed a team who has ensured that thousands of families have received the food that they need over the years. We can’t wait to see this same passion being brought to her new role.”

Corkey’s new part-time role is a well-earned shift after years of early mornings, late nights, and tireless behind-the-scenes coordination of the staff and drivers who help keep the warehouse and partner store running. Her leadership has been foundational to our operations, and we’re thrilled she’ll continue to stay connected to the mission she’s helped build. “I am so proud of the work we have done on the Operations team,” Corkey explains, “the growth during my time here has been amazing to be a part of and I am excited to continue to support Yolo Food Bank in new ways moving forward.”

A New Face in the Warehouse

As Corkey steps into her new role, we’re also preparing to welcome new leadership to our operations team. Jimmy Choo has joined us as the Director of Operations on May 19th, and after receiving critical training, will be assuming the role on July 1st. To support a smooth transition, Jimmy Choo will work closely with Corkey throughout June before officially stepping into the role of Director of Operations at the end of the month.

Jimmy’s broad management experience in the Starbucks Corporation and at the Biltmore Hotel shows his core interest in customer service. He has extensive experience developing staff and building efficient operational systems. This makes him an excellent match to work with our partner agencies, grocery recovery partners, local farmers, and our YFB staff and volunteers. “I am excited to join Yolo Food Bank and I appreciate the opportunity,” Jimmy says. “This organization does incredible work supporting our community, and I’m honored to be part of a team so committed to making a meaningful impact.”

Goodbye and Thank You, Maria

May also brings changes to our Development and Communications team. Maria Segoviano has stepped down as Director after four years to take on a new role at Sutter Health. As Community Health Manager, she’ll lead strategic partnerships and program funding across the Greater Sacramento region, including Yolo County. While we’ll miss her presence in the building, we’re proud of her next step and grateful for the lasting foundation she helped to build here. Also, on the Development and Communications team, Alex Simmons has stepped into the position of Senior Manager of Development starting immediately and Brittany Cornejo has accepted the role of Marketing Manager.
