During a warm sunny afternoon community members gathered for an unforgettable day at the Food Bank Fiesta. The event was more than celebrating our Yolo Food Bank supporters, it was a reminder of the importance of generosity and a shared commitment to addressing hunger in our community.
Tacos, Tunes, and Tours

Mariachi Los Claveles filled the air with beautiful music, while attendees of all ages enjoyed fresh street tacos from Laura’s Catering – a delicious reminder of food’s power to bring people together. Families explored behind-the-scenes warehouse tours, gaining a deeper appreciation for the dedication that drives our mission.
The silent auction was a hit, featuring handcrafted wooden planters by Facilities Manager Alan Mapalo – perfect for spring gardens! Prizes and surprises kept the spirit lively, with children and adults alike delighting in fun activities. Once the mariachi band wrapped up it was time for the annual Pallet Awards!
A Spotlight on Our Supporters
Every year, the Pallet Awards shine a spotlight on the extraordinary people and partners who help create a stronger, more connected, and food-secure community. From dedicated volunteers to innovative collaborators, these honorees have gone above and beyond to serve Yolo County. This year, we’re thrilled to celebrate a group of individuals and organizations whose commitment has made a lasting impact.
Volunteer Groups of the Year
Since 2018, Girl Scout Troop #1290 has been showing up at our Holiday Food Distributions and lending a hand. They bring 30–40 Girl Scouts to volunteer each year! We’ve watched many of them grow up and keep giving back, and we’re so proud to honor them with this award.
Our second group being recognized was the amazing Drive & Thrive team of drivers. These individuals use their own cars to deliver food to seniors, people with disabilities, and others who can’t get to distribution sites. Week after week, they help make sure everyone in rural Yolo County is taken care of.

Collaborative Agricultural Partner
Jim and Deborah Durst and their farm Durst Organic Growers are longtime champions of local food and sustainable farming. Recently, they teamed up with a Winters High School student to grow 400 pounds of broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower; all headed to Yolo Food Bank this spring!
HM.Clause came through in a big way last year with a huge pumpkin donation. And they’re already planning something special for this year. Keith Walker and Stephanie Bell accepted the award on behalf of the team, who always bring creativity and generosity to the table when supporting Yolo Food Bank.

Rural Community Ambassador
Rachel De La Cruz from the Madison Community Committee is one of those people you can always count on. Twice a month, Rachel helps make sure a third of her town has the food they need. She helps by organizing the Public Community Food Distribution in Madison, CA and handing out groceries to her neighbors in need. She’s deeply committed, and Madison is lucky to have her.

Creative Legacy Grocery Partner
Raley’s Bel Air continues to be a cornerstone partner in our efforts to fight food insecurity across Yolo County. Through their Grocery Recovery program and their long-standing Food For Families initiative, Raley’s empowers shoppers to directly support food banks across the region. These contributions help stock our Partner Agency Store and strengthen our distribution efforts year-round. Raley’s also generously supported our Global Rice Fest by donating beautiful floral centerpieces for every table, adding heart and hospitality to the event.

Food Security Ambassador

Yolo County Supervisor Lucas Frerichs has played a key leadership role in advancing food security initiatives across our region. His efforts were instrumental in helping Yolo Food Bank secure essential American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding. He also supported the launch of our Food Access Survey Report and continues to advocate for inclusive food programs countywide. Notably, Supervisor Frerichs has directed community benefit funds to expand the Cultivo program to Winters, ensuring that fresh, culturally relevant food reaches agricultural workers. His trusted partnership and forward-thinking approach have made a lasting impact.
See You Next Time!
As the event wrapped up, guests left with smiles, full stomachs, and a deeper connection to the work of Yolo Food Bank. The day was a perfect mix of fun, food, and community. It reminded everyone that moments of appreciation together can help make a big difference. None of it would have been possible without the incredible donors, volunteers, and supporters who dedicate their time and resources to addressing food insecurity in Yolo County. Their generosity and hard work keep this mission alive year-round. With another successful Appreciation Event in the books, we’re already looking forward to next year’s gathering!
