Meet Dana

Meet Dana! Long-time Davis resident and Yolo Food Bank Hunger Hero volunteer, Dana Armstrong Hughes is the site lead for our “Eat Well Yolo” free, fresh food distribution at University Covenant Church in Davis. She began volunteering with us over two years ago in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Growing up, I took food production and agricultural operations for granted,” Dana shared. “Now, I help the community connect to food as a site lead. I get to assign jobs to volunteers, train new volunteers, and determine food allocations for households. I enjoy looking for the bottlenecks in the operations and anticipating issues before things become a problem. It’s fun!”

Dana highly recommends volunteering with Yolo Food Bank: “Anyone can serve at the food bank — there are a variety of ways to get involved, and the commitment can be low. You can pack bags in the warehouse, harvest in fields, distribute at schools, and more. Every volunteer serves a critical role!”

We’re so grateful to Dana and all of our amazing volunteers for their commitment to nourishing our community! Join our Hunger Heroes when you sign up to volunteer.
